Talk to anyone, in any language
You write in your language. The other person reads it in theirs, instantly, in the same conversation. No copying, no pasting, no switching to a translator.
¡Hola! ¿Seguimos en pie para el sábado?
¡SÃ! Qué ganas. ¿A qué hora?
Sobre las 8. Reservo una mesa.
Perfecto, ¡nos vemos allÃ!
Same conversation, shown in Español. In Gonchat, you write in your language and the other person reads it in theirs. Nobody copies, pastes or switches apps. This is a preview. Live translation runs inside the Gonchat app.
A translator built for conversations, not blocks of text
Most translators are made to translate one piece of text at a time: you paste something in, copy the result out, and do it again for the reply. That breaks the flow of an actual conversation. Gonchat is built the other way around, so both people simply keep writing in their own language, and each reads every message in theirs.
How translation works in Gonchat
In the Gonchat app, translation happens on your own device: on iPhone it uses Apple’s built-in translation, and on Android it uses Google’s on-device translation. Because the text is translated on the phone rather than on a separate server, it fits how Gonchat is built:
private messaging where your messages are encrypted by default.
Is it private?
Gonchat messages are encrypted by default, so only you and the person you are talking to can read them. Translating on the device, rather than sending your words to an outside translation service, keeps that promise intact. As with any chat, remember the person you are talking to can still see, and keep, what you send them.
Try it with someone
The box above is a preview so you can see how it feels. The real thing lives in the app, where you can have a full back-and-forth with someone across languages. If you are a creator, you can even
talk privately with an audience that does not share your language.
Frequently asked questions
How does translation work in Gonchat?
You write in your own language and the other person reads the message in theirs. In the Gonchat app the translation happens on your device. On iPhone it uses Apple’s built-in translation and on Android it uses Google’s on-device translation, so the text does not need to be sent to a separate translation server.
Is this the same as Google Translate?
It is built for a different job. A translator like Google Translate is great for translating a block of text once. Gonchat is built around a two-way conversation: both people keep writing and reading in their own language, message after message, without copying and pasting between apps.
Is the translation free?
Yes. Translation is part of Gonchat and uses your phone’s own translation, so there is no per-message cost to you.
Is my conversation private?
Gonchat messages are encrypted by default, so only you and the person you are talking to can read them. Because the translation happens on the device rather than on a separate server, your messages are not handed to an outside translation service to be processed.
Which languages are supported?
Gonchat uses your phone’s built-in translation, which includes more than 19 languages. The small demo above shows a few of them so you can see how a conversation feels.
